Nutritious food is rare, and costly, in remote First Nations communities across Australia.

The processed food that is readily available can lead to health issues such as type two diabetes, renal disease and hypertension. Enter Meals for the Mob, a program run by  FareShare, with the help of First Nations volunteers.  FareShare runs Australia’s largest charity kitchens in Brisbane and Melbourne cooking more than 10,000 meals for frontline charities a day.

After learning from communities about which meals they needed, FareShare worked with the University of Queensland to develop a range of familiar, tasty and nutritionally balanced meals. After the Meals for the Mob pilot received fantastic feedback from communities, the Goodman Foundation committed to three years of support to expand it, and to hire a First Nations officer.
